John (Jack)'s Story
I put myself through college after high school. I got married to a gal from Venezuela in my last semester and after finishing school moved to Venezuela for a couple of years. After coming back to the States I worked briefly as a bilingual teacher aide at Flint Michigan's Central High School. In 1982 I started working with the US Public Health Service/Centers for Disease Control as a VD investigator. This job took me to Cleveland Ohio, South Texas (Corpus Christi) then eventually to Fort Worth, Texas where I spent 4 years. In 1988 I was sent to Long Beach California where I coordinated STD Control for several counties in Southern California. Back to Texas in 1990 based in Austin for 4 years then in Houston for another dozen years. In 2007 I spent a short 4 months in Los Angeles, living in Holly...Expand for more
wood which was a blast, then back to the Midwest to Chicago where I still work in STD Control, assigned to the Chicago Department of Health. My ultimate goal is to land a postion overseas to cap off my career in Public Health with the Global AIDS Program.
I have three kids, two sons, 30 and 22 and a daughter 26. We have one grandson! My dad died in 1988 but my mom is still alive and well, living in Michigan. My sister and brother both live in Michigan and have wonderful families.
In high school I always liked to hang out with foreign exchange students in addition to local pals. I still keep in touch with all of the overseas folks more than I do with my old neighbors in Westland. Not sure why that is.
